Carbon Monoxide Awareness week
Nov 2, 2026

by: Parker Cameron, reporter
This week, Georgina Fire and Rescue reminds you that from Nov 1st – 7th is Carbon Monoxide (CO) Awareness week.
Carbon Monoxide is known as the “silent killer” as it is odourless, tasteless and colourless, so it is important to remain informed. CO is produced by fuel-burning appliances, including but not limited to gas stoves and furnaces.
To protect against CO poisoning, ensure the CO alarms in your home are in functioning order. The alarms have a lifespan of 5-7 years and should have their batteries replaced every 6 months. To ensure your alarms are working, press the “test” button and let it beep. For more information, go to: https://www.georgina.ca/living-here/fire-and-rescue-services?
700 CHILDREN TAKE PART IN KESWICK TRUNK OR TREAT EVENT
Nov 1, 2026

Seven hundred children and their families turned out yesterday for the annual Trunk or Treat event hosted by S&B Motors in Keswick. The popular Halloween celebration gave youngsters a safe place to collect their treats, with no traffic to worry about as families moved from one decorated vehicle to another. Children were all smiles as they enjoyed the Halloween festivities and filled their bags with goodies.
The event also featured live entertainment from local bands Psychosis and The Keswitches, while K Country 93.7 provided the music to keep the Halloween spirit going. Local businesses, community groups and Halloween enthusiasts were invited to take part by decorating their vehicles and handing out treats, helping make the event a memorable experience for the community.
Organizers say Trunk or Treat continues to provide a fun, family-friendly alternative to traditional trick-or-treating, bringing the community together while giving children a safe environment to celebrate Halloween. This year marked the largest turnout for the event on a perfect October day in Gerogina.
